Flolaroids and Ploods and Havre de Grace

Hurricane Irene passed us and we thought our week full of natural disasters was behind us…   we escaped to Minnesota for a week of amazingly beautiful weather, then we came home to Maryland… to rain .. to LOTS of rain…

The next day the rain stopped .. but the Susquehanna River had already risen too high .. the Conowingo Damn needed to be opened to let the water out.  It meant relief for the river but big problems for houses down river.  Port Deposit was underwater and Havre de Grace was badly flooded.  Streets were closed, restaurants were abandoned, homes were evacuated.  It was an eery thing to see the water keep rising after the rain had stopped.

We spent the next 2 days walking around town documenting all that was happening .. And because it’s just not our style to document with only one camera…  We covered all our bases with the Nikon D700, the Holga and a Polaroid just for good measure.    We had just acquired a ‘new-to-us’ Polaroid camera at an antique store in MN so we put in a pack of expired film that I had been hoarding for 4 years to test it out and we were off .  This is what we saw around town…
